Honest is a phrase we often hear and a discussion. However, the call may only cover the outside only and has not touched the core of the meaning of honest discussion itself. Moreover, the case honesty is the case with regard to many issues of Islam, be it faith, morals or muamalah; where the latter has many branches, such as the case of sale, debts, vows, and so on.
Honest is a commendable trait. Allah praised those who have honest nature and abundant promises for their replies. Included in the honest is honest to God, honest with each other and be honest to yourself. As contained in the authentic hadith that the Prophet said,
“Always be honest guys, for verily honesty leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. Someone who is always honest and strive to always be honest, finally written on the side of God as one who is always honest. And shun falsehood falsehood because it leads to immorality, and immorality brought to hell. Someone who is always lying and always lied, until finally written with Allah as a liar. ”
Honestly meaningful alignment between the news and the reality. So, if a word in accordance with the existing circumstances, it is said to be true / honest, but if not, then it is said to lie. Honesty is there in the speech, there is also the act, as someone doing an act, of course, as it is on his mind. One who does riya ‘is not regarded as an honest man as he had appeared something different to what he was hiding (in his mind). Similarly, a hypocrite is not regarded as an honest man because he showed himself as a tawheed, whereas the opposite. The same thing applies to the perpetrators of heresy; outwardly appear as a follower of the prophet, but ultimately he menyelisihi him. Clearly, honesty is the nature of a man of faith, while his opponent, a lie, a hypocritical nature.
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said, Faith is a principle of honesty (truth) and nifaq principle is falsehood. So, would not have met between falsehood and faith it will conflict with each other. Allah informs that there is nothing useful for a servant and who is able to save him from punishment, except for his honesty (truth).
“It was a rewarding day for the people who actually their truth.” (Surah al-Maidah: 119)
“And the person who brought the truth (Muhammad) and justify it, they are the ones who fear Allah.” (Surat az-Zumar: 33)
